Well, it's Labor Day and I'm doing just that--WORK!!!! Grad school is relentless, let me tell you! hehehe. But in any case, I do have some snippets to share:
Hurricane Katrina
Watching the damage in the news is heartbreaking. But I heard one comment that seeing the devastation was like watching a news clipping from a third world country. When I heard that, I had mixed reactions. For a split second, di ko alam kung ma-o-offend ba ako or matatawa (sarcastically) sa sinabi nya. I suppose for people here, that's what they think...na this kind of disaster only happens in OTHER places, but not here in the US...and that this kind of desperation is normal for third world countries. Perhaps to a certain level, that is true. I mean, often, they portray themselves as the nation that can save the world...and then this hits them and they realize that they are just as helpless as the rest of us when they meet a force much beyond their control.
Just thankful...
I'm glad I was able to see New Orleans in its prime. I spent 3 days there for a conference. Did more work than anything else, but it was still great. Makes me realize how much we really should take advantage and cherish all our experiences and live them to the fullest because we never know if we'll ever get a chance to do that again. SO here's to...alligator nuggets (it does taste like chicken!), shopping in the French Quarter, gumbo (without the crawfish--I couldn't eat the real thing since I'm allergic...so I tried the chicken jumbo...wasn't bad), jazz on the streets, beignets and goooooood coffee!, human sculptures (I don't know what they call it!), beads!, muffalettas, funky art, daiquiris!, Bourbon Street night life, chocolate pralines!, turtle soup...so pansin nyo puro food ulit, noh? Well, that's what I loved about it. Just an awesome melting pot of flavor and culture!

The pre-Brent era
I've been able to reconnect with my first ever barkada. It was so exciting to touch bases with Janina, Helenne, Christian, Gerald, Magnolia, and some other people from my batch at Saint Louis School of Campo Filipino (aka Holy Family Academy). Wow, it has been AGES since I even got to spend time with any of them. It's rather cool to see where our separate lives have taken us. Can't wait to get more emails as we expand the network. Thanks, Marvin, for the leads on this one!
100 nuggets about me
Jackie posted 100 things about her and challenged--okay, suggested--for us to try and do the same. Well, heck, it's taking much longer than I thought it would. I might just make it a separate blog and link it up so I can post them in increments of five or so! hahahaha. Palibhasa kasi bawat point, may kwento pa! I'll get it posted soon...abangan!
