A friend of mine sent me the link to Good News Pilipinas, a website showcasing everything positive about being Filipino...for a change. I've come across a lot of websites that talk about all the bad and the ugly...and I admit, there's undeniably truth in some of that. BUT I think it is wonderful that there's a group of people out there who love the Philippines enough to really work on getting the positive word out. I hope you check it out. I think one of my favorite articles among the ones I've read is: 100 Things About Being Pinoy
This was a great way to start my day:)
Afterthought: I received a comment today that led me to this site: Get Real Phiippines! Sigh...I can't deny that it made me sad reading through it. I guess these two sites go hand in hand. One for a reality check, the other to fuel hope.
Even then, I'm still proud to be Pinoy. Idealistic? Perhaps. But I'd like to believe that there is hope.

This is a good thing. Constantly reminding ourselves of the good things about our country and our people helps us focus on why we want to make our country's situation better.
But to truly make things better --- to truly effect changes for a better, more prosperous Philippines, first and foremost, we need to admit that there are issues and that the biggest issue are the people --- the way the Filipino people corrupt and exploit the government, the land, each other; there's more of that going around than the good things but many people deny it. Currently, the BAD greatly outnumbers the GOOD. If this is not true, then how come we're still a 3rd word country after so many so-called revolutions? Why aren't we progressing? Why does the situation seem to be getting worse?
What makes me sad is that more Filipinos would rather only admit to the good things.
The good things (such as what this website showcases) serve as a good reminder for why we want the problems fixed. We want to see a Philippines in which the GOOD greatly outnumber the Bad. That's what we're working on on www.getrealphilippines.com.
Even if he continues to refuse to listen, we won't stop telling the emperor that he has no clothes.
Hey! I used to contribute articles to GRP (Get Real Philippines). I have 2 actually. I've just been way too busy since moving to SEattle and I got out of touch with a lot of issues from back home too. I would like to get back on track though. So much to do and so little time. *sigh*
Amz, please read through the articles. Even though they seem like "sad" stories in the beginning, there are solutions interjected in between discussing the issues. The sad part of it I guess is when people read the headlines and titles and when they feel too saddened by it, they turn away from it and go somewhere else "happier".
