Bayanihan at KU

Last night, Audrey, Mau, and I went to watch the Bayanihan Dance Troupe perform in Lawrence. I have never seen that many Filipinos in one place (in Kansas) before☺ It was great. I didn’t particularly like all their dances, but I cannot say I was not impressed. I wish I could dance like them! The Sayaw sa Bangko, Singkil, and Tinikling were just unbelievably amazing. A far cry from the typical traditional dances, definitely. The synchronization was exceptional for all their dances. Very percussive, especially since most of the music was live. I enjoyed it a lot. Mas lalo tuloy ako na homesick.

What I enjoyed more was spending time with Audrey and Mau. We had fun and we clicked. I love that Audrey is so Pinay even if she grew up here. She tries her best to speak in Tagalog and just her actions/quirks/ and expressions scream Pinoy! Hahaha. Gotta love it! She’s even barat “kasi I’m part Ilokano!” hahahaha. She’s a genuinely sweet girl and it’s obvious that the Filipino community in Wichita love her. I’m glad that she found the time to hang out. (By the way, her Mom is a Bayanihan alumna!)

On our way back to Manhattan, we went through Steak N Shake in Topeka for some food. We didn't get to have dinner before the show so we thought we'd fill up:) And fill up we did! To the brim! We cracked up all through out dinner so all that air plus all that food...yikes! We could hardly breathe when we walked out. Luckily none of us (especially our driver, Audrey!) fell asleep and we made it back safe and sound. Thanks for bringing us out, Audrey! Dapat maulit to!
