rewind

A few weeks ago, I found the blog of an old friend of mine. I have always admired Jenni for her creative gusto--in any form--literature, music, design, visual art, etc (the list goes on...really!). But I've always been very impressed by her writing style: edgy, real, sarcastic, witty, intelligent. So I write her a note and her response has me laughing out loud.

Just sharing:

jennnnnnnnnnnnni!!!! hey girl. just found your blog today. how i miss our long (then very creative, angstful, and just a tad bit too hopelessly romantic) letters--with all the doodles along the borders and the fancy origami-like folds:) i love the way you write--always have! i think i've lost my touch, unless you consider statistics as creative writing:) hahaha. miss you girl!

Girl!!! I miss you too! You know, when I think about it, I really don't know where we found the time to keep up that constant, daily exchange of information (like we weren't talking all the time in between notes). I still had all our letters from high school up until a few years ago, but they were somehow misplaced when I moved house. Too bad! I think we would've gotten a kick out of all our post-pubescent sentimentality. As for losing your touch, eto lang yon—if I (despite all the brain cells I've killed in the last decade) am still miraculously capable of stringing a coherent sentence together, then I am absolutely certain that you've still got it in you. By the way, I still remember one of our exchanges in which I told you that I was stressing because I had brain constipation, and you wrote back that it was ok because you had verbal diarrhea. Hey, I STILL think that's funny.

:) The next time I come home, I am definitely going to look up all those letters--which I also have filed (yes, filed chronologically!). We'll have fun reading them over coffee. Ah, nothing like teen-age angst! hahahaha.

Chronologically?!? Girl, some things will never change—but in your case I think that's a good thing! (By the way, I'm pretty bad with compliments so let me just say Awwww! and Thank You! right here and then move awkwardly along, hehe.) Why do I get the feeling I'm going to be pretty embarassed when you break those letters out? It's not just about US, it's about all the OTHER people (especially the guys) we talked about too. Confidentiality clause!!!
