International Week

Phew, what a BUSY week! The International Coordinating Council is an organization that brings together all the international student groups on campus. Every year, they sponsor International Week where foreign students get to showcase their culture. Of course the KSU-PhilSA was right there in the action. And since we are such a small group here, we all had to be active in EVERYTHING to make it work...

First up was the Cultural Exhibit (Check put the pics! Click on the link). Last year, we made the top three but lacked some criteria to really bag it. So this year, we went all out, and YUP, we won 1st place! Now we're all excited and hype for next year's.

We also had the Fashion Show and I really enjoy this part of the week. It's awesome to see the beautiful clothes from other countries. I think the Indian sari looks so regal, specially the ones in pure silk with gold thread. Of course one of the Filipinos performed during the intermission and mesmerized the crowd with his "d-vine" voice [someone actually said that about him...]. I think we're going to require all the new students coming over to bring a Filipiniana costume, especially the really pretty Maria Clara's and terno's.

Karaoke night wasn't as well attended. Basically it was the Taiwanese and the Filipino group. Hahaha. So yeah, we just took turns. And we showed them the Biyahe Tayo video as well. Talk about promotional material. For those who have not seen it yet, I really think you should. Makes you so proud to be Pinoy!

The Talent Show was so much fun as well. Pictures are not up yet, but as soon as they are, I'll post the link. The group performed Sayaw sa Bangko. Maybe next year we'll go for the Maglalatik or something. The other groups were great too. I especially liked the Bhangra (India)...so colorful and it looked like so much fun. Actually, if I were to do that, it would be like an aerobic work-out! It was just constant motion and energy! I liked the dances from the Cameroon students too. Those gals can really groove:) Of course the Latin Jazz Ensemble was awesome too...mostly because they reminded me so much of KaloyPedzJohn. I even called him so he could listen to them:) I probably woke him up...hahahaha.

To round up the events, I also attended the Indian Food Festival. Wow, talk about a celebration of flavor! There is so much more to their cuisine than CURRY!!!! I can't really tell you what I had exactly, but I can say that it was all goooood! My favorite would have to be the dossa with the spicy peanut sauce. And this bread soaked in sweet milk flavored with almonds and some other ingredients. I'm glad that I went. Luckily I'm one of those people who is adventurous with food. Imagine all those complex flavors I would be missing if I didn't allow myself to taste the unfamiliar!

Now that all the activity is done (therefore no more excuse to do school work later), I have to get back to nerd mode. hahaha.

Have a great week ahead!
